day 21

I'm feeling like an expectant mother today. We're making all the preparations necessary to keep some new babies safe.

Our broody bantam hen has been sitting on her nest for 21 days, according to my calendar count. I may have missed a day or two, although, I doubt it or else we would have chicks by now.

She is sitting on a large nest of eggs. She's planning to hatch 5 full-sized Araucanas and 4 Mille fleur bantams.

Can't wait! I keep checking every hour for some peeping.

Update: Heard several different peeps coming from under the hen this afternoon. No hatching is happening yet, as far as I could tell. It's usually within 24 hours of hearing peeps that they'll begin to hatch. We'll have some chicks by morning!
